Happy Holidays!

Happy Holidays or Merry Christmas?

The United States has long been known as a melting pot of people from many different cultures and faiths, and December is a busy month with other holidays in addition to Christmas. Hanukkah and Kwanzaa also occur in December, so the phrase “Happy Holidays” is inclusive of these other celebrations.

Hanukkah is a Jewish holiday that takes place this year from sunset on December 22nd until the night of December 30th, commemorating the dedication of the Temple in Jerusalem during the Maccabees’ revolt against the Seleucid Greeks in the Second Century B.C. Kwanzaa, an African-American holiday that emphasizes unity, is celebrated by wearing colorful clothing, feasting with loved ones, and lighting candles in a kinara, a traditional candle holder, and will be observed from December 26-January 1.

Of course, America’s diversity means that many don’t observe Christmas, Hanukkah or Kwanzaa, but almost everyone celebrates the new year, so “Happy Holidays” or “Season’s Greetings” works in nearly every situation. Regardless of one’s individual background, December is a wonderful time to spread cheer, share gifts, and participate in family traditions.

Activ8 embraces the USA’s unique diversity. The melting pot of cultures makes the holiday season in December a time for everyone to enjoy with their family and friends. Whether someone celebrates Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa or something else, Activ8 wishes all of our clients and employees across the nation Happy Holidays!
